Grand Audio and Trailer Launch of Suriya’s “Retro” Held in Chennai

The audio and trailer launch of the much-awaited film Retro, starring Suriya and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, was held recently with much fanfare at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The event witnessed the participation of the entire film crew and thousands of enthusiastic fans.

Retro features a stellar ensemble cast including Suriya, Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Swasika, Singampuli, Karunakaran, Nandita Das, Ramya Suresh and George Maryan. The film is shot by Shreyaas Krishna and set to music by Santhosh Narayanan. A romantic action entertainer, the film is jointly produced by 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Films.

Slated for a worldwide theatrical release on May 1st, Retro is touted to be a cinematic journey through time. Speaking at the event, Suriya shared heartfelt words with his fans and film fraternity.

“I initially thought of keeping my speech short for today and speaking more at another event, but I have to thank all the fans who’ve come from every corner of Tamil Nadu,” Suriya said. “Retro signifies an era. They say it’s been 28 years since I entered cinema—those are years I can never forget.”

He expressed admiration for his co-stars, particularly highlighting the dedication of Nassar and Joju George on set, and the pleasure of working with veteran actor Jayaram. Suriya also praised debut director Tamil, and fellow artists Karunakaran, Gajaraj, Swasika, Vidhu, and Prem, with whom he worked for four months.

He commended Karthik Subbaraj’s unique single-shot filmmaking style and appreciated the support from the team. He also applauded Pooja Hegde for her performance and for dubbing in her own voice for the film.

Suriya gave special mention to producers Rajasekar and Karthikeyan for organizing a massive shoot in the Andaman Islands with over a thousand people, calling it a memorable experience. He also credited producer Jayantilal Gada for Retro’s reach in North India.

Highlighting the behind-the-scenes magic, Suriya said, “Karthik and Shreyaas create pure cinematic magic with their planning. We completed filming in just four months.”
The actor emotionally acknowledged his bond with director Karthik Subbaraj, likening him to a fusion of legendary directors Mani Ratnam and Hari. He also praised music director Santhosh Narayanan, who not only composed the film’s soundtrack but also the music for both production house logos. “The songs have become a hit after a long time—some truly touch the heart,” he added.
Suriya reflected on a recent birthday promise where he met over 3,000 fans and took photos with them. “It was not just about the photo. You asked me how I was doing—with love. That affection is what keeps me going.”

He went on to share personal anecdotes about his struggles during school and encouraged the younger generation to embrace life with hope and courage. “Life is beautiful. Don’t miss the opportunities that come your way. You may fail, but take risks with commitment and passion. Everyone has a beautiful life ahead.”

Suriya concluded with a moving note about his foundation: “My purpose is Agaram Foundation. Thanks to your support, over 7,000 students have graduated through Agaram. I’ll always take pride in that.”

He urged fans to celebrate Retro when it releases on May 1st, saying, “I love you all. Thank you for your endless love.”
