“Oh My Baby”, a romantic dramedy released in 2025, is directed by Krishnakumar Ramkumar and produced under the banner of Vishnu Vishal Studios. The film stars newcomer Rudra and Little Things fame Mithila Palkar in the lead roles, with supporting performances by Karunakaran, Reddin Kingsley, and Nirmal Pillai. Interestingly, filmmaker Mysskin and actor Vishnu Vishal also make special appearances as themselves.
The story revolves around Ashwin (played by Rudra), an aspiring filmmaker who narrates his own love story to a popular actor in an attempt to prove his storytelling talent. However, the tragic ending to his romance prompts the actor to suggest a rewrite. What follows is a series of events that blend fiction with reality, blurring the lines between art and life.
The screenplay cleverly inserts names of real-life celebrities like Vijay, Ajith, director Atlee, and Kenisha(a friend of director Ravi Mohan) for comedic effect. These references, while humorous, raise eyebrows—possibly hinting at past personal tensions between the film’s creators and the individuals mentioned.
The film’s first half progresses at a lively pace, with energetic storytelling and engaging scenes. However, the second half loses some of its momentum and feels slightly stretched. Rudra delivers a commendable debut performance, particularly excelling in romantic scenes with expressive body language and sincere acting. Mithila Palkar effectively portrays her character, bringing depth and nuance to her role.
Reddin Kingsley, known for his comedic timing, adds flavor with his sharp delivery, while Karunakaran impresses in a mature, grounded role. Nirmal Pillai and the rest of the supporting cast provide solid contributions without any jarring missteps. Cameos by Mysskin and Vishnu Vishal add a layer of playful self-awareness to the narrative.
Director Krishnakumar Ramkumar could have tightened the second half of the screenplay to maintain consistency in pacing. Similarly, editor Pranav’s sharper attention in the latter part could have elevated the overall experience. On the technical side, Jen Martin’s music score lends emotional weight to key moments, while Harish Kannan’s cinematography enhances the film’s visual storytelling with clarity and polish.
Ultimately, “Oh My Baby” presents a relatable romantic drama interwoven with contemporary themes that reflect the emotional landscape of today’s youth. While the film falters occasionally with uneven pacing, it still offers a sweet, heartfelt experience for those seeking a modern love story with touches of humor and introspection.
Note: The film has been certified U/A 16+ by the CBFC, restricting viewership to audiences aged 16 and above.
