Between Laughter and Lessons – ‘Good Day’ Movie Review

‘Good Day’ is a Tamil drama helmed by first-time director N. Aravindan and produced by and starring Prithiviraj Ramalingam in the lead role. The ensemble cast features Kali Venkat, Myna Nandini, Adukalam Murugadoss, Bucks, Vela Ramamoorthy, Bose Venkat, Jeeva Subramaniyam and Barath Nellaiyappan.

The film follows Santhakumar (Prithiviraj Ramalingam), an overstressed knitting-garment factory worker beset by financial strain, workplace dissatisfaction, and family tensions. His mounting frustrations drive him into the consuming spiral of alcoholism. As the story unfolds, the climax poses the central question, “Will drinking truly ease Santhakumar’s burdens, or lead him down an even darker path?”

Prithiviraj Ramalingam embodies Santhakumar with raw authenticity; his comic drunken antics, especially during the memorable phone call and terrace scenes with Myna Nandini and Adukalam Murugadoss deliver the film’s biggest laughs.

Vijaya Murugan, doubling as art director and on-screen police inspector, brings his trademark flair to the role.

Kali Venkat turns in his reliable charm as a bemused auto driver, though his extended scenes with the leads occasionally drag.

Myna Nandini and Adukalam Murugadoss, though limited in screen time, make each appearance count.

Vela Ramamoorthy and Bose Venkat appear sparingly, but Vela Ramamoorthy’s dialogue carries poignant weight.

Jeeva Subramaniyam, as a transgender sub-inspector, gives a quietly powerful performance, so convincing that the character transcends gender entirely.

Screenwriter Poorna Jes Michael weaves a tight narrative, with Karthik Netha’s additional dialogues and Govind Vasantha’s score forming the film’s emotional backbone. Cinematographer & Editor Madhan Gunadev keeps the pacing brisk, ensuring audiences stay engaged from start to finish.

In sum, ‘Good Day’ is a lively entertainer, equal parts humor and heartfelt messages. It’s a strong debut for Aravindan and worth your time on the big screen.

The only drawback for this movie is the lack of publicity.
