Renowned producer S. Sashikanth, known for backing innovative and high-quality films under YNOT Studios, is stepping into the director’s chair for the first time with “Test”. Starring Madhavan, Siddharth, Nayanthara, and Meera Jasmine, the film is set to premiere directly on Netflix on April 4, making it the first Tamil direct release on the streaming platform this year. The movie has the technical team of Viraj Singh Gohil as the Cinematographer, Sakthisree Gopalan as the Music Director and T.S.Suresh as the Editor.
Speaking about his transition from producer to director, Sashikanth revealed that his ultimate goal was always to direct. “Producing films was a stepping stone to my directorial aspirations. I started writing the script of “Test” 12 years ago, but each time I planned to direct, my production commitments took over. During the pandemic, I finally revisited the script and decided it was time,” he shared.
While ‘Test” incorporates cricket, Sashikanth emphasized that it isn’t solely about the sport. “The film is about life’s defining moments—the trials that shape who we are. It follows three characters as they navigate crucial turning points. Often, we hesitate to take risks, questioning our abilities, but life’s tests reveal our true selves,” he explained.
Siddharth plays a cricketer facing professional struggles, while Madhavan and Nayanthara’s characters also confront their own life-altering challenges. “Siddharth and Nayanthara immediately agreed to be part of the project. Madhavan had a lot of questions, leading to multiple script revisions before he finally came on board,” Sashikanth shared.
On the decision to bypass a theatrical release, Sashikanth highlighted the global reach of Netflix. “We wanted “Test” to be accessible worldwide. With Netflix, the film will reach a larger audience and gain wider recognition.”
To enhance realism, “Test” movie’s cricket sequences were filmed using professional broadcast cameras, replicating the experience of watching a live match. “Siddharth and I are both passionate about cricket, and he underwent training for his role,” he said.
Nayanthara, for the first time, has dubbed in her own voice for the film. “The live recording process required the actors to be fully prepared before each scene,” Sashikanth noted. Meanwhile, Meera Jasmine makes a significant comeback, playing a crucial role, though she will not be part of the film’s promotions.
Sashikanth also praised the technical team, emphasizing their contributions to the film’s impact. “The cinematography, music, and overall technical aspects have elevated the storytelling. The music director has carefully crafted the score to enhance the film’s emotional depth.”
With an intriguing premise and a star-studded cast, Test promises to be an engaging film that goes beyond cricket, exploring the pivotal moments that define us. Fans can look forward to its global premiere on Netflix on April 4.
