Madras High Court Order Hits ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’! Studio Green Eyes Supreme Court Appeal!!

The Madras High Court has passed an interim order in a commercial dispute involving Studio Green Films Pvt. Ltd., the producers of the upcoming Tamil film Vaa Vaathiyaar, starring Karthi and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles and directed by Nalan Kumarasamy. The order, issued on December 8, 2025, by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, came in a suit filed by Sanraj Motion Pictures LLP alleging breach of assignment agreements and seeking refund of the assignment fee along with interest.

After hearing both sides, the Court observed, on a prima facie basis, that the agreements appeared to contain a clause obligating the producer to refund the assignment amount in the event of breach, while also recording the defence contention that the contractual period provided to remedy the alleged breach had not yet elapsed.

Pending further hearing, the High Court restrained certain third-party entities from making payments to Studio Green Films Pvt. Ltd. or anyone claiming under it, to the extent of ₹27.50 crore, and directed issuance of notices, listing the matter for further consideration on December 17, 2025.

Meanwhile, reliable sources say that Studio Green Films Pvt. Ltd. is planning to appeal before the Supreme Court of India against the interim order passed by the Madras High Court. The sources add that the production house is confident that justice will prevail and, in that belief, is planning to release Vaa Vaathiyaar on the evening of December 24, 2025, marking the release as a tribute to legendary actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, late M.G. Ramachandran on his death anniversary, who was affectionately known as “Vaathiyaar.”

With the legal battle now poised to move to the apex court, all eyes are on whether the proposed release plan will go ahead as scheduled amid the ongoing judicial proceedings.
