Noted Tamil film distributor, producer, and actor Kalaipuli G. Sekaran passed away today at the age of 73. He died of cardiac arrest at around 12:27 p.m. at the Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Guindy, where he had been receiving treatment for a bladder infection since mid-March.
Sekaran, a respected figure in the Tamil film industry, was widely known for his contributions as a distributor of numerous Tamil films. He also produced a few films and appeared in over a dozen movies as an actor. Beyond the screen, he held prominent roles in various film industry associations, including serving as President and in other leadership capacities.
Sources indicate that Sekaran had undergone surgery at the same hospital a week ago but succumbed to complications earlier today. A lifelong bachelor, he is survived by his extended family and colleagues in the film fraternity.
His mortal remains have been taken to his residence at Grace Gardens in Royapuram, Chennai. The funeral is scheduled for tomorrow, April 14, and will be conducted according to Christian rites.
