“Warrant” Expands the ‘Vilangu’ Universe – Prashanth Pandiaraj Turns Hero in Intense Rural Crime Thriller

The upcoming Tamil crime thriller web-series “Warrant”, set to premiere on ZEE5, has already created strong buzz among fans following the launch of its gripping trailer at a grand event attended by the cast, crew, and several film industry personalities.

Produced by Prashanth Pandiaraj, P. Vishal, and P.M. Atheeswar under the banners Sivan Pictures and S Studios, the series marks filmmaker Prashanth Pandiaraj’s debut as a lead actor. The series has been directed by Vignesh Natarajan, who also co-wrote the screenplay along with Prashanth Pandiaraj.

Speaking at the trailer launch, Prashanth Pandiaraj said that the overwhelming support received for “Vilangu” gave the team a strong identity and confidence. He expressed hope that audiences would extend the same love and encouragement to “Warrant” as well, especially now that he is stepping in front of the camera as an actor.

Director Vignesh Natarajan shared that the story was developed jointly with Prashanth and described the series as a special and emotional project for the team. He also thanked his mentors and expressed confidence that the audience would connect deeply with the narrative.

ZEE5 Series Head Shyam revealed that “Warrant” is closely connected to the “Vilangu” universe and serves as an expansion of that world. According to him, the story explores the transformation of an ordinary man into a powerful police officer and dives deep into the psychological and emotional impact of authority and violence.

Several industry personalities including directors Pandiraj, Suseenthiran, Ramkumar, and Tamilarasan Pachamuthu attended the event and praised Prashanth Pandiaraj’s dedication and growth. Actor Kavin, after watching the trailer, reportedly remarked that the visuals and intensity made it feel like a theatrical film rather than a web-series.

Set against a rural backdrop, “Warrant” focuses on the darker side of the police system, power abuse, and the psychological struggles faced by law enforcement officers. The story revolves around “Kottai Karuppasamy,” a constable who begins his journey as an ordinary policeman but gradually undergoes drastic emotional and mental changes while investigating old warrant cases.

The narrative takes a major turn following a lock-up death incident, leading to a gripping conflict between truth, justice, power, and morality. The makers have described the series as a realistic and intense portrayal of a police officer’s psychological transformation.

The ensemble cast includes Balaji Sakthivel, Kaali Venkat, Aruldoss, Namritha MV, Aruljothi, Sayadevi, Meena, Kausalya, Vaiyapuri, and several others in pivotal roles. The series features music by Sam C.S., cinematography by Ashok Kumar, and editing by R. Ramar.

With its grounded storytelling, realistic treatment, and connection to the widely appreciated “Vilangu” universe, “Warrant” is expected to become one of the most talked-about Tamil web-series releases of the year.

“Warrant” premieres on ZEE5 from May 22.
