A Refreshing Romantic Drama that Celebrates Modern Relationships – ‘Couple Friendly’ Movie Review

Directed by Ashwin Chandrasekar, Couple Friendly, a Tamil–Telugu bilingual romantic drama, brings together themes of love, ambition, responsibility and companionship in a contemporary urban setting. The film revolves around two young individuals striving to establish themselves in life, whose unexpected meeting gradually evolves into a meaningful emotional bond. Their journey, filled with personal challenges and aspirations, forms the heart of this engaging narrative that explores the importance of mutual support in relationships.

Santhosh Soban delivers a sincere and natural performance as a young man struggling to find stability in his professional life. His portrayal captures the vulnerability and determination of today’s youth with convincing ease. Manasa Varanasi, playing the female lead, impresses with a confident and graceful screen presence, effectively portraying a modern young woman chasing her dreams while navigating emotional complexities. The on-screen chemistry between the lead pair works beautifully and serves as one of the film’s strongest assets, making their journey relatable and heartfelt.

Yogi Babu adds light-hearted moments with his trademark humour, providing welcome comic relief without disrupting the narrative flow. The supporting cast also contributes effectively, ensuring the story moves forward with consistency. Director Ashwin Chandrasekar deserves appreciation for presenting not just a romantic tale, but also for addressing the realities of urban life, career struggles, emotional commitments and the evolving dynamics of modern relationships. While the screenplay progresses at a gentle pace, the emotional authenticity keeps viewers invested throughout.

Technically, the film is well-mounted. The cinematography captures the vibrancy of city life and the softer emotional moments with visual finesse. Music composed by Aditya Ravindran complements the narrative effectively, with songs blending smoothly into the storyline and the background score enhancing several key emotional sequences. Editing and production design support the film’s realistic tone, making the overall viewing experience cohesive and engaging.

Overall, Couple Friendly is more than just a love story—it is a warm and feel-good film about companionship, understanding and standing by one another through life’s uncertainties. With its positive message and relatable characters, the film offers an enjoyable and emotionally satisfying experience for audiences.

Interestingly, despite the absence of violence, explicit content or intense scenes, the Central Board of Film Certification has awarded the film an ‘A’ certificate reportedly due to its title “Couple Friendly.” As a result, viewers under 18 years of age will not be permitted inside theatres, something audiences should keep in mind before planning to watch the film.
