Set around Chennai’s port, Enemy of the Smuggler follows Amar and his friend Dheena, whose routine work handling cargo brings them into contact with a drug-smuggling network. As the two become entangled in the operation, a customs officer sets out to expose the people behind it.

The port setting gives the film a welcome point of difference. Cargo checks and the ways smugglers exploit gaps in the system add detail to a crime story that might otherwise feel familiar. The cast, including Saran Sakthi, Bala Saravanan, Lal, J. D. Chakravarthy and Radhika Sarathkumar, brings experience and energy to the screen.

The storytelling is less assured. Explanations about the smuggling operation sometimes take precedence over character development, while the romance and family portions feel familiar. The screenplay also leans on conventional hero moments and twists, so the tension does not build as steadily as the premise promises. Some characters could have been given more room to make their choices matter.

Enemy of the Smuggler has an intriguing backdrop and enough crime-thriller elements to hold interest, but uneven pacing and predictable stretches keep it from making a lasting impact. It is a reasonable choice for viewers drawn to port-side crime stories, though a tighter screenplay could have made it more gripping.
