Set in the 1990s, Singgaramm follows a young man from the Narikuravar community whose family’s fortunes change after a lottery win. As he finds a path into politics, his personal journey becomes tied to a larger struggle for dignity, recognition and equal treatment.

The film’s strongest moments come when it stays close to the community’s everyday realities. Scenes of exclusion and hardship give the story emotional weight, and the supporting cast—particularly M.S. Bhaskar and Deepa—brings warmth and conviction to the family portions. Yogi Babu takes on a more serious lead role, though the character gives him limited room to make a strong impression.

The narrative is less assured as it moves from social drama to a familiar rise-to-power story. The political turn feels overly cinematic, and the romance never quite settles into the film. The comedy is also sparse, leaving the screenplay without much relief from its steady stream of sentiment. Sam C.S.’s music and the cinematography support the atmosphere, but neither consistently lifts the drama.

Singgaramm has a meaningful subject and several affecting scenes, yet its uneven storytelling blunts the impact. The film’s intentions are clear; its execution is not always as compelling.

Rating: 2.25/5
