Vijay Sethupathi’s Many Shades Take Centre Stage in ‘Baththa’ Trailer

The trailer of ‘Baththa’, starring Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, has been released, offering a glimpse into a world that blends action, comedy, family emotions and mystery. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s, the trailer introduces several shades of Vijay Sethupathi’s character and has added to the anticipation surrounding the film.
Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan and presented by filmmaker Atlee, ‘Baththa’ is jointly produced by Star Studio18, A for Apple Studios and Cine 1 Studios Production. The film had already created interest with its teaser and songs, and the newly released trailer provides a broader look at its characters and setting without revealing the central twists.
The trailer opens with two young boys discussing the legendary exploits of Baththa, presenting him as a feared and powerful rowdy who is seemingly beyond anyone’s reach. The action sequences that follow establish his reputation and create the impression of a full-fledged action drama.
However, the trailer soon reveals another side to Baththa. Along with his identity as a feared rowdy, he is shown as a family man, bringing an unexpected emotional dimension to the character. The contrasting shades of his personality appear to form a major part of the film’s narrative.
While the initial portions focus heavily on action, the trailer gradually shifts gears to include humour and family-oriented moments. The people surrounding Baththa, his relationships with them and the incidents that shape his life appear to be central to the story.
The emotional core of the film gets a glimpse towards the end of the trailer with the visuals accompanying the song ‘Chellamae Magalae’. A little girl asking, “Appa vandhiruvarla amma?” is followed by visuals of Baththa behind bars. The sequence leaves viewers wondering about the circumstances that led him to prison.
The 1980s setting is another prominent feature of the trailer. The costumes, production design, locations and overall visual treatment appear to have been crafted to establish the period and transport the audience into the world of the film.
The trailer deliberately leaves several questions unanswered. Who is Baththa really? What lies behind his different identities? How does a feared rowdy become a family man? And what circumstances lead to his imprisonment? Rather than revealing the answers, the trailer uses these questions to build curiosity around the film.
‘Baththa’ features Vijay Sethupathi alongside ‘Jai Bhim’ fame Lijomol Jose as the female lead. Harikrishnan, Shanthy Balachandran, Arjun Chidambaram, Ajay Ghosh and Deepa Venkat are also part of the cast in important roles.
Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, the film has music by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography by Selvakumar S.K. and editing by R. Kalaivanan. T. Muthuraj is the production designer. Ashwin Murugan serves as the co-producer, while Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee, Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare are the producers.
With action, comedy, family emotions and mystery set against an intriguing 1980s backdrop, ‘Baththa’ is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on October 1.
