Atlee’s ‘Raaka’ Enters Guinness World Records with 37-Person Real-Time Motion Capture

Icon Star Allu Arjun’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Raaka’, directed by V. Arunkumar, popularly known as Atlee, and produced by Sun Pictures’ Kalanithi Maran, has achieved a major milestone in cinematic technology by earning a Guinness World Records title for the “Most People Motion-Captured in Real-Time.”

The record-breaking feat was accomplished in February 2026, when 37 performers were simultaneously captured in real time during a single session. The achievement was officially certified on 15 September 2026, marking a significant technological milestone for Indian cinema.

The official Guinness World Records certificate was presented to Allu Arjun and director Atlee by Swapnil Dangrikar, Senior Adjudicator, Guinness World Records, at an intimate ceremony attended by key members of the film’s cast and technical crew.

Reacting to the achievement, Allu Arjun said that the record was a proud moment for the entire team and an accomplishment that pushes the boundaries of cinema while creating a new benchmark on a global scale. He credited director Atlee’s vision and direction, along with the extraordinary efforts of the entire team, for making the achievement possible. He also expressed his gratitude to Sun Pictures for supporting a project of such scale and ambition, as well as to Guinness World Records for officially recognising the team’s efforts.

Director Atlee recalled how Guinness World Records had fascinated him during his childhood and said he had never imagined that one day he would be part of a record-breaking achievement himself. He described receiving recognition for bringing together 37 motion-capture assets in a single shoot as a surreal and humbling experience.

According to Atlee, the achievement stands as an example of how ambitious dreams can become reality when people work together with complete belief and commitment. He also expressed his gratitude to the entire team that believed in the vision and worked towards making the record possible.

The motion-capture exercise for ‘Raaka’ involved 37 performers ranging in age from a four-year-old child to a 70-year-old, all captured simultaneously in real time during a single session. One of the biggest technical challenges was to accurately capture the individual performances of all 37 participants within a single capture volume while preserving the uniqueness and integrity of each performance.

To meet the requirements of the ambitious sequence, the film’s VFX Producer developed a new motion-capture pipeline and workflow specifically tailored to the scale and technical demands of ‘Raaka’. As many as 92 optical motion-capture cameras were deployed for the Guinness World Records attempt.

The technical setup brought together multiple advanced systems, including capture, calibration, networking, synchronisation, real-time Unreal visualisation, witness cameras and facial capture, supported by specialist technical teams.

The record-breaking achievement represents the combined efforts of Sun Pictures’ ambitious production, Atlee’s creative vision, Allu Arjun’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance, Apple Art Studio’s technical expertise, the film’s advanced VFX workflow and technology, and the collective contribution of the entire crew.
