Ilaiyaraaja to Compose Music for Karthik Subbaraj’s Landmark 10th Directorial

Veteran composer Ilaiyaraaja is set to collaborate with acclaimed filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj for the first time in the director’s landmark 10th feature film, creating huge excitement among cinema lovers and music enthusiasts alike.

The yet-to-be-titled project, produced by Sikhya Entertainment in association with Jio Studios, has officially completed shooting after going on floors in November last year. The film marks the maiden collaboration between Karthik Subbaraj and the globally recognised production banner led by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain.

Adding to the anticipation is the inclusion of Ilaiyaraaja as the music composer, making it the legendary musician’s 1540th project. Known for redefining film music across generations, the maestro’s association with Karthik Subbaraj — a filmmaker celebrated for his distinctive storytelling style in films such as Pizza, Jigarthanda, Iraivi, Petta, Mahaan, Jigarthanda DoubleX and Retro — has already generated massive buzz in the industry.

Speaking about the collaboration, Ilaiyaraaja said he was happy to work with Karthik Subbaraj and praised the filmmaker’s passion for cinema. The composer also revealed that the background score sessions shaped up so well that he felt the music deserved an independent album release, expressing confidence that fans would enjoy the soundtrack.

Karthik Subbaraj described the collaboration as a lifelong dream come true. Calling the opportunity “surreal and deeply special,” the filmmaker said he has admired Ilaiyaraaja’s music for years and considers this project personally and creatively significant. He also expressed excitement about partnering with Sikhya Entertainment and Jio Studios for the ambitious venture.

Producer Guneet Monga Kapoor said the project feels deeply personal for the team at Sikhya Entertainment, adding that Karthik Subbaraj is one of the most distinctive voices in Indian cinema today. She also noted that seeing the filmmaker collaborate with Ilaiyaraaja is genuinely exciting, especially as it marks Sikhya’s first association with Jio Studios.
