A Mass Entertainer Packed With Family Emotions and Action - ‘Blast’ Movie Review

Arjun and Abhirami play a married couple, while Preity Mukhundhan appears as their daughter Nila and Vivek Prasanna plays Ilango, Nila’s uncle. The family lives in Chennai and runs a medical shop together. At the same time, Arjun’s character Rajaraman trains young children in karate, showcasing discipline, strength, and family values.
On the other side of the story is business tycoon Varun Dhayalan, played by John Kokken, who is planning a massive business deal worth several thousand crores. During the transfer of a commission amount connected to the deal, an unexpected car accident involving one of his men changes everything. Soon after, the money mysteriously goes missing, setting the stage for an intense and gripping narrative. Whether the missing money is recovered and what eventually happens to Varun Dhayalan’s ambitious business project forms the rest of the story.
Director Subash K Raj smartly blends this central crime plot with the emotional and personal journey of Rajaraman’s family. Relationships, conflicts, emotions, and action moments are woven together effectively, making the film engaging throughout. The balance between family sentiment and commercial action works strongly in the film’s favour.
Arjun once again proves his screen presence with powerful action sequences and effortlessly showcases his real-life karate skills. Abhirami delivers a natural and convincing performance that adds emotional depth to the story. Preity Mukhundhan shines in both emotional scenes and action portions, while Vivek Prasanna brings his trademark realism and humour to the film. John Kokken, Pawan, Arjun Chidambaram, Bala Hasan, and Vinod Sagar have all performed their roles convincingly.
Ravi Basrur’s background score significantly enhances the film’s intensity and elevates the action blocks. Phoenix Prabhu’s stunt choreography is one of the major highlights and is sure to impress action lovers in theatres. Arun Radhakrishnan’s cinematography captures both emotional and action-driven moments effectively, while Pradeep E Ragav’s editing keeps the screenplay crisp and engaging.
With Blast, debut director Subash K Raj delivers an entertaining commercial film backed by emotions, action, and an engaging screenplay. The film caters well to family audiences while also appealing to youngsters and action fans. If received well by audiences, it would not be surprising to see Blast emerge as a successful theatrical entertainer.
